The Detroit Red Wings (13-9-1) play a home game today against the Nashville Predators (6-12-4).  Detroit is in second place in the Atlantic Division, while Nashville owns the NHL’s worst record.

Hot: Defenseman Moritz Seider boasts two goals and eight assists for 10 points over his past seven games. Seider ranks 14th among NHL defensemen with 16 points in 23 games.

Not:  Marco Kasper is pointless in his past 12 games. He’s minus-eight in that span.

Spotlight: Defenseman Travis Hamonic was minus-three against the New Jersey Devils. He’s minus-seven over his past four games.

Story:  Cam Talbot appears to be the starter tonight… The fan giveaway at tonight’s Red Wings game is the popular Zamboni gravy bowl. The first 7,500 attending the game will receive one…The Red Wings power play (21.3%) ranks 13th and their penalty kill (81.3%) is 14th.  Injured: Elmer Soderblom (day-to-day), Simon Edvinsson (illness) did not skate this morning. He has missed the past two games with flu-like symptoms.

Story: The Predators rank last in the NHL in scoring at 2.32 goals per game. They have lost eight of their last nine and ranked 29th with a 3.68 GAA… Nashville is 9-5-1 in their last 15 games against the Red Wings, including six wins in a row from Feb. 23, 2021-Jan. 22, 2022, the franchise’s longest-ever win streak vs. Detroit… The Predators are exploring trade options for some of their veterans. Pierre LeBrun reported that the asking price for Ryan O’Reilly is a first-round pick and a top prospect.

I hope the boys don’t take this game to light. Regardless who they are playing they aren’t good enough to take anything for granted. If they do it will bite them. Really hope Kasper can get things going and supply some much needed secondary scoring.
