Griffins Release Goalie From Tryout Contract

The Grand Rapids Griffins, off to the best start in franchise history, released former NHL goalie Dustin Tokarski from his tryout contract with the team.

Grand Rapids brought in Tokarski after Michal Postava was injured in a game on Oct. 9. Tokarski played 63 minutes over two games and leaves with a 1-0 record, a 1.93 goals-against average and .929 save percentage. He has played 86 NHL games, including six with the Carolina Hurricanes in 2024-25.

The Griffins did not announce a corresponding signing or call-up from the Toledo Walleye. That may mean that Postava is ready to return to the Griffins. As a general rule, the Grand Rapids group doesn’t provide much information about injuries.

Postava, 23, was 4-0 with a 2.15 GAA and .937 save percentage when he went down with what appeared to be a lower body injury. The Red Wings signed him last season out of the Czechia Extraliga.

The Griffins take a league-best 20-1-0-1 record into tomorrow’s home game against the Rockford IceHogs (Chicago Blackhawks affiliate).

Grand Rapids leads the AHL in goals-against, giving up just 43 goals in 22 games this season. The Griffins also have scored 90 goals to lead in that category.
