The Daily: ‘Hawks Star Out Against Red Wings; Kiiskinen Scores Again

Connor Bedard, chicago blackhawks

Young Chicago Blackhawks star Connor Bedard won’t play against the Detroit Red Wings tonight as a result of a freak injury suffered on a meaningless game-ending faceoff play.

Chicago Hockey Now’s Jack Bushman’s report says Bedard’s right shoulder or arm was injured. He was hurt in the faceoff circle during a battle against St. Louis Blues center Brayden Schenn with 0.8 seconds left in the game. When Schenn checked him, his arm twisted awkwardly under his body. Bedard seemed to be in pain when he left the ice.

The Blackhawks don’t expect to know the full extent of Bedard’s injury until Monday.

“He won’t play (Saturday vs. Detroit),” Blashill said. “At some point through the weekend, I’ll know more. I’ll probably have more info come Monday… I think it’s a freak accident.”

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

The Minnesota Wild beat out Red Wings to win the Quinn Hughes Sweepstakes. The Wild gave up plenty.

Valtteri Filppula is having his number retired (by his Finnish team).

The Grand Rapids Griffins released goalie Dustin Tokarski from his tryout deal.

Red Wings Extra

Presumably, we will see Jesse Kiiskinen, 20, with the Grand Rapids Griffins at the end of his Finnish season. He has 11 goals in 29 games this season. Last season, he had 14 goals in 46 games. The Red Wings acquired him from Nashville in the Andrew Gibson trade.
