USA's Max Plante is injured at the World Junior Championships.

USA Hockey is listing Detroit prospect Max Plante (47th, 2024) as day-to-day with an undisclosed injury as the World Junior Championships head into quarterfinal play today

The NCAA’s leading scorer (16 goals, 14 assists) was injured in the second period of USA’s 6-5 win against Slovakia. Neither Plante or Cole Hutson, played in USA’s 6-3 loss on Sweden on New Year’s Eve. Plante was a member of USA’s gold medal team last year. This year, he shows a goal in three games and a plus-minus of minus-3.

The Americans will play Finland in its quarterfinal matchup at 5 p.m. Friday at Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minn. When it comes to being ready for that game, the prognosis is encouraging for Hutson and discouraging for Plante a sophomore at Minnesota-Duluth is.

By the way, Detroit forward Eddie Genborg had a pair of power play goals in 12:52 minutes of playing time for Sweden in a win against USA.

The Swedes are playing Latvia at 1 p.m. in their quarterfinal. Genborg boasts two goals and three assists for five points in four games in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Michal Srveck has a goal and an assist for two points for Slovakia/ Goalie Michal Pradel has a win, an .896 save percentage and 3.46 goals-against average. He has played better than his numbers suggest.

The Slovaks face Canada today at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis at 7:30.

Get better Mr. Max Plante. On another note, I really liked the Genborg pick.

All good stuff.

Do we get an MBN call-up by March? Thoughts? By the way, I ask for a response instead of the downvote please. Let’s start the New Year in a positive direction. Thanks so much.

Not sure RW on the MBN call up. I would have thought the way he has been playing in GR he would be here by now especially the way Kasper has been playing but no dice yet. As for the votes I always give you a green but please don’t let the red ones bother you. You already know what I think of those.

Thank you so much. And I just enjoy talking and chatting about things rather than downvotes.

The Kasper funk ends now. I have not looked at MBN’s stats until now. However, he is almost a point per game in GR. Those are pretty good numbers, eh? I have not watched much of his play. Have you? Wonder if anyone else has?

No, I don’t get to watch many GR games where I live. Only sometimes when they play Laval or the Marlies. I see The Red Wing games more often on TSN or Sports Net. MBN’s #’s speak for themselves and as for Kasper you would think that at some point a puck would bounce in off him or something. As RR as often posted this thing with him is deeper than the sophomore slump. In the end we need this guy for the offence he can bring as well as his 200 ft play, not just checking. We must also keep in mind his -14 which is second worst on the team.

Kasper with an assist tonight v. Pitt!

MBN 4th in scoring for the Grifs behind only vets. Not too shabby.

Obie

Yes I see Kasper got an assist although they lost in OT. Still, they came back from a 2 goal deficit, that’s a +. The bad is Montreal, and Tampa won. I just despise Montreal. They should have lost their games against Tampa ( tied Tampa with 3 sec left & won in OT) and Florida, but….

Agreed on the positive direction RWH. Always great to pick up notes and news fans are aware of. The random negativity isn’t welcome at all.

Here’s one: Gibson in Detroit wins while Gibson (Andrew) playing for Milwaukee against the Grifs who was traded for Kiiskinen won. Anything current to share on Detroit’s side of that trade? JK started the year hot if I recall correctly. Not at the Worlds – seems to have fallen off.
