The Daily: Guimond Goalie of the Month; Lightning Move Ahead of Red Wings

Published

on

Rudy Guimond, Red Wings prospect

sDetroit prospect Rudy Guimond’s performance in the Quebec Maritimes Major Junior Hockey League in December statistically looked a lot like John Gibson’s performance with the Detroit Red Wings in that month.

Gibson was 9-1 in the NHL that month, while Guimond was 8-1 with a 2.32 goals-against average and .927 save for the Moncton Wildcats to earn QMJHL Goalie of the Month. In six of Guimond’s appearances, he owned save percentages of .920 or better. Included in that run: a 45-save win against Saint John and a 43-save victory against Newfoundland

Guimond leads the QMJHL with 22 wins and a .924 save percentage. In 13 months with the Wildcats, Guimond has 46 wins in 53 games.

Red Wings in Case You Missed It

The Red Wings have sent Nate Danielson back to the Grand Rapids Griffins

Eduards Tralmaks (Latvia) becomes the fourth Red Wings player on an Olympic roster.

The John Gibson trade is one of the best moves of Steve Yzerman’s time as general manager

Red Wings Extra

The Red Wings fell out of first place in the Atlantic because the Tampa Bay Lightning downed the Colorado Avalanche for the eighth win a row. . .  Defenseman Anton Johansson has points in five consecutive games for Leksands in the Swedish Hockey League. He is playing for a team lower in the standings, which means it isn’t likely to qualify for the SHL playoffs. That will mean an earlier arrival to the Grand Rapids Griffins.

It will be nice when The Wings slow down and have the rest of the Atlantic division teams catch up game wise. Even now we have 2 games more played than Tampa or Montreal. Will get a better idea of where we stand when all teams are about equal.

Right Obie. Wings have a worse winning pct than the rest of the top of the pack and an awful goal differential compared to say Tampa which is soaring. As Coach T says, the Wings have to improve in all aspects of the game. They are in first place with much room for improvement. Here is to continuing to improve and finding ways to win.

Obie

Certainly right. I also forgot to mention in my first post that The Sabers have 3 games in hand on us. I they would win all 3 then I believe we would be tied point wise.

May even be a tougher division to secure a playoff position in than the past couple years. Have to keep finding ways to improve and win for sure.
