Seider Olympic Update: Red Wings D Man Plays 26+ Minutes

Moritz Seider made his 2026 Olympic debut on Thursday notching an assist in Germany’s 3-1 win over Denmark. Seider was on the first defensive pair for the Germans, working with Fabio Wagner. Seider’s assist came on Germany’s third goal, scored by Tim Stutzle (Ottawa Senators) midway through the second period. Stutzle had broken a 1-1 tie with a goal earlier in the period.

Seider logged 26:18 of ice time, far and away the most on the German team. He’s expected to shoulder a lion’s share of the load on the blue line for the Germans.

Analysis

Germany is looking to improve on its showing at the 2022 Olympics, in which it went 1-2 in group play in a group that included the USA and Canada. Leon Draiseitl (Edmonton Oilers) got the Germans on the board just 23 seconds into the game, following in the footsteps of his father, Peter. Philip Grubauer (Seattle Kraken) was in net, stopping 37 of 38 shots. 

Production

Seider’s assist came on Germany’s third goal. He also had a shot on goal, and was plus-one. His defense partner, Fabio Wagner, also had an assist. Oscar Fisker-Molgaard (Seattle) scored for Denmark. Denmark outshot Germany 38-26.

Next Game

Germany plays Latvia at 12:10 p.m. Saturday. Latvia lost 5-1 to the Americans on Thursday.
