Raymond Coming Back to Red Wings a Swedish Olympic Record Setter
Raymond bettered Nicklas Lidstrom record
He won’t be coming back from the Olympics with a medal, but that doesn’t mean Detroit Red Wings forward Lucas Raymond is returning without earning a place in hockey history.
During the Cortina Milano Olympics, Raymond accomplished a mark never before achieved by a Swedish Olympic hockey player. He also equaled another of his country’s Olympic standards.
This goal is bonkers. What a game for Lucas Raymond.

Raymond finished the tournament with a goal and eight assists in five games. Even though Sweden was eliminated in the quarterfinals, Raymond is still third overall in the Olympic scoring race.
Raymond’s eight assists tied a long-standing Swedish record. Ronald Pettersson recorded eight assists for Sweden at the 1960 Winter Olympic Games in Squaw Valley, California.
Playing in the Olympics for the first time, Raymond collected at least one assist in each of Sweden’s five games. That assist streak is a new standard for Swedish Olympic players.
The previous record for an assist streak by a Swedish Olympian was four games. Nicklas Backstrom recorded assists in four consecutive games during the 2010 Vancouver Winter Games. Red Wings icon Nicklas Lidstrom originally established the mark. The seven-time Norris Trophy-winning defenseman collected assists in four straight games at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympiad.
Red Wings Impressed by Teammate’s Performance
Watching from afar, Raymond’s Red Wings teammates weren’t at all surprised to see such a dominant performance from the player who leads the team in scoring this season with 60 points.

“Yeah. it was impressive,” Detroit forward James van Riemsdyk said. “I think he’s top five in scoring that tournament, which is a very cool, impressive thing for a player like him to accomplish.
“Just with what kind of year he’s having for us and just where he kind of is, I wouldn’t say he’s underrated, but I think just people are starting to see more and more how good of a player he is
“Doing it on that stage, it’s an impressive thing. So happy for him to have all that success.
