Red Wings vs Senators

The Detroit Red Wings (33-19-6) are on the road today to play the Ottawa Senators (28-22-67). The Red Wings hold the first wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference. They are also tied for second in the Atlantic Division but are officially in the wildcard spot because of points percentage. The Senators are six points out of a playoff spot.

When: 7 p.m. ET

Hot: Alex DeBrincat scored 10 goals in his final 13 games before the Olympic break. With 30 goals already, DeBrincat has a shot at his third 40-goal season.

Not: Patrick Kane didn’t score a goal in the last 13 games before the Olympic break. The Red Wings will need goals from him down the stretch.

Spotlight: Defenseman Simon Edvinsson is playing his first game since leaving the lineup with an injury Jan. 21. The Red Wings were 2-3-2 in his absence.

Story: John Gibson will start in goal for Detroit. He was 1-3-1 in his last five games before the Olympic break. . . Captain Dylan Larkin, an Olympic gold medalist, rejoined his team Thursday in Detroit. Patrick Kane didn’t score a goal in the last 13 games before the Olympic break.

Kane hasn’t been right since his first injury this year. But let’s be honest, he’s also been saddled with Copp as his center. Trocheck. Trocheck. Trocheck. He’d not only provide Kane and Cat with a legitimate 2nd-line center, he’d be a quality faceoff man and penalty killer. Make it happen, Yzerman. Please.
