Detroit Red Wings defense prospect William Wallinder is spending his third full season with the Grand Rapids Griffins. He’s played 179 AHL games with Detroit’s top farm club without even getting a single sniff of life in the NHL.

So close … and yet so far away.

It’s enough to leave a guy down in the dumps, wondering if his time will ever arrive.

Right?

Wrong.

“No, not really, no,” Wallinder insists. “Just taking one day at a time and just focusing, getting better. There’s no rush.

“I’m still young, just enjoying my time here, trying to get better.”
