Derek Lalonde, Red Wings coach
Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde is being accused of making up a story about Tampa Bay goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy.

In his analyst’s role with Sportsnet during the Stanley Cup playoffs, Detroit Red Wings coach revealed that Tampa Bay Lightning goalie Andrei Vasilveskiy struggled to deal with point shots. Lalonde came upon this revelation while working as a Tampa Bay assistant coach.

Coming to the defense of his goaltender, Lightning head coach Jon Cooper, Lalonde’s former boss, is accusing Lalonde of being inaccurate in his assessment of Vasilveskiy.

“I heard about it,” Cooper said of Lalonde’s comments. “Listen, Sportsnet is paying him well to go give an opinion, so he has to make something up about that kind of stuff.

“He is there because he was an assistant coach on this team. He’s trying to offer insight and give the fans something. He should be doing that; it’s just making sure it’s accurate in what he is saying.”
