When it comes to young goalies, only the San Jose Sharks project to have two prospects better than the Detroit Red Wings’ tandem of Trey Augustine and Sebastian Cossa.

Athletic writer Scott Wheeler’s annual ranking of the top 20 goalie prospects came out this week and the Sharks were at No. 1 (Yaroslav Askarov) and No. 5 (Joshua Ravensbergen) and the Red Wings boast Augustine at No. 3 and Sebastian Cossa at No. 8.

The No. 2 goalie is Montreal’s Jacob Fowler who moved ahead of Augustine this past season as college hockey’s top goalkeeper.

In case you were wondering, Jesper Wallstedt rated ahead of Cossa in their draft year, is 13th.

Augustine is opting to stay at Michigan State for his junior season.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

Detroit’s Lucas Raymond is snubbed in ranking of NHL’s top forwards under-25.

You shouldn’t forget about draft pick Dylan James because the Red Wings haven’t forgotten him.

It’s possible for Axel Sandin Pellikka to win a spot on Detroit’s roster with strong preseason play. But it’s more likely he will start the season in Grand Rapids.
