Detroit Red Wings Acquire 25-year-old Goalie Alex Nedeljkovic from Carolina

The Detroit Red Wings have acquired goalie Alex Nedeljkovic from the Carolina Hurricanes for a third round draft pick and the rights to Jonathan Bernier.

Nedeljkovic, 25, would share the Red Wings’ goaltending duties with Thomas Greiss. The Hurricanes would be looking to sign Bernier to become their No. 1 goalie, or at least compete for the No. 1 job.

Nedeljkovic is young enough to be considered as part of the Red Wings’ rebuild. If it take three more years for the Red Wings to be a contender, he would theoretically be at the top of his career.  Last season, Nedeljkovic was 15-5-3 with a 1.95 goals-against average in the regular-season. In the playoffs, he was 4-3 with a 2.17 GAA.

The former Plymouth Whalers goalie Nedeljkovic has two seasons left on a contract paying him $3 million per season.
