All that is settled about the Detroit Red Wings’ 2022-23 goaltending outlook is that Alex Nedeljkovic is the presumptive starter. Pencil him in for 45-50 games.

The Red Wings’ 2021 first-round pick Sebastian Cossa, 19, will presumably sign after the Western Hockey League playoffs. He will prepare to start his professional career next season with the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins. Don’t plan on seeing him for a good long while. General manager Steve Yzerman is clear that Cossa won’t be rushed. Historically, young goalies need multiple seasons in the AHL or elsewhere before they are NHL-ready.
