Red Wings 2021 first-round draft pick Simon Edvinsson ended up third in SHL rookie of the year voting.

It was the late, great Meat Loaf who once warbled about the fact that two out of three ain’t bad. The Detroit Red Wings went into the Swedish Hockey League rookie of the year award with two out of the three finalists and yet it still ended up turning out badly.

Skelleftea’s Linus Karlsson was the winner of the SHL rookie honors. The league was announcing all of its award winners on Monday. Right-winger Pontus Andreasson, who has signed a free-agent deal with the Red Wings for next season, was the runner-up in the balloting. Defenseman Simon Edvinsson of Frolunda, the player Detroit choice with the fourth overall selection of the 2021 NHL entry draft, finished third in the voting. Edvinsson recently signed an entry-level deal with Detroit.

Both Edvinsson and Andreasson will be attending Red Wings training camp in the fall.
