Daily: Ugly NHL Fan Violence; Would Dallas Stars Take Petry?

Jeff Petry, Michigan native

Anyone who frequents social media can testify that sports fans can behave badly when it comes to supporting their teams.

Should-be-fun sports debates escalate quickly to name-calling and ugliness. More worrisome are the physical confrontations between fans at games. Another shocking incident happened at Madison Square Garden at Game 5 Thursday. A fan sucker-punched another fan. The man was arrested and banned from MSG.

Hopefully, we won’t see copy cats at Saturday’s Game 6 at Tampa Bay.

Elsewhere around the NHL, Montreal Hockey Now’s Marco D’Amico writes about Canadiens defenseman Jeff Petry might be a good fit for the Dallas Stars.

Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill has said publicly that he is looking for a right-shot D man. The Stars could lose right-shot defenseman John Klingberg to free agency. That’s a critical loss.

Detroit fans are very familiar with Petry because he is the son of former Detroit Tigers pitcher and current Bally Sports TV analyst Dan Petry. The younger Petry also played at Michigan State.

Two former Detroit Red Wings are battling to become the boss of the Czechia national hockey program.

Detroit Hockey Now has ranked the Red Wings’ Top 10 forward prospects heading into the 2022-23 season. Jonatan Berggren is No. 1 and Elmer Soderblom is No. 2.

The top defensemen prospects on the Detroit Red Wings is headlined by Simon Edvinsson. Could he have an impact similar to Moritz Seider?
