GRAND RAPIDS — The road to the National Hockey League is not always a straight line.

Elmer Soderblom, who made quite an impression last season, made the Red Wings out of training camp and scored in his NHL debut.

He played in 21 games and scored five goals before injuries and ineffectiveness led to his ending the season in Grand Rapids.
