The Daily: Patrick Kane Back Wednesday?; Preds Want to Trade

Patrick Kane, Detroit Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings are already playing playoff-quality hockey and could get another lift Wednesday with Patrick Kane (lower body injury) returning for their next game against the Ottawa Senators.

That was Derek Lalonde’s update the Red Wings downed the Vegas Golden Knights 5-2 to raise their record to 9-2-1 in January.

“Patrick has had some positive days here,” Lalonde said. “There is a possibility for Wednesday. That’s something we’ll re-evaluate through two practices Monday and Tuesday.”

Kane hasn’t played since Dec. 14 when he was injured during the Red Wings’ win against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Red Wings have been scoring and winning without Patrick Kane, but his value to the team is undeniable. Nobody is better at entering the zone with the puck and controlling the puck in the offensive zone. He passing is another ‘wow’ factor.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

  • Is this Detroit Red Wings surge for real? Alex Lyon and other player are playing as if it is.
  • Dylan Larkin scores his 200th and 201st NHL goals in win against Vegas.
  • GM Steve Yzerman’s organization will benefit from the Grand Rapids Griffins’ improved play.
  • Goalie Ville Husso was back in Detroit Saturday after recording a 3-0 shutout for the Griffins against Belleville Friday. He was on a one-game conditioning assignment.

Red Wings Next Game

The Detroit squad will have two days of practice (Monday and Tuesday) before playing the Ottawa Senators at Little Caesars Arena.  Lucas Raymond will enter the game looking for his fourth consecutive multiple-point game. He also boasts a four-game point streak (1-6–7) and has 15 points (3-12–15) in his last 14 games since Dec. 29. Raymond also leads the Red Wings with 28 assists this season.
