The Daily: MacKinnon Says He’s Not Sakic-Good; More ‘Mo’ Video
Nathan MacKinnon has broken Joe Sakic’s Colorado Avalanche record of 120 points in a season, but doesn’t believe it means he’s a better player than Sakic.
“I don’t think I’m as good as Joe ever was,” MacKinnon said after picking up his 120th,121st and 122nd points in a 5-4 come-from-behind victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins . “It’s a good number, I guess. It’s a good stat to have, but a lot of guys are having special seasons.”
Colorado Hockey Now’s Evan Rawal has a good read on MacKinnon’s record-breaking day.
What makes MacKinnon’s record-breaking more meaningful is that it comes in the midst of a Colorado nine-game winning streak. The Avalanche are hoping their late season surge bodes well for the playoffs.
What also could be on the horizon: MacKinnon making a run at Peter Stastny’s 42-year-old franchise record of 139 points, set when the team was located in Quebec in 1981-82. MacKinnon is on pace for 140 points.
MacKinnon broke Joe Sakic's record with his 121st point on his third-period goal and then added an assist on Drouin's OT winner

Red Wings Next Game
Juuse Saros was a difference-maker against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday in the 1-0 loss to the Nashville Predators. Detroit will face another hot goaltender Tuesday when it plays a road game against the Washington Capitals. Washington netminder Charlie Lindgren is 7-2-0 with a 2.02 goals-against average, .931 save percentage and two shutouts in his last 10 appearances. This is an uber-important game for both teams.
