Nate Danielson, Red Wings prospect
Red Wings 2023 top draftee Nate Danielson is showing 3-7-10 totals through eight WHL playoff games.

Last fall, Nate Danielson almost made the Detroit Red Wings roster. Currently, he’s eight wins away from making an appearance in the Memorial Cup.

The center chosen ninth overall by the Red Wings in the 2023 NHL entry draft is showing 3-7-10 totals through eight playoff games with the Portland Winterhawks. Portland is 8-0 in the postseason and is opening the Western Conference final on Friday on the road against the Prince George Cougars.

Danielson has a point in five of Portland’s eight games. His ledger is displaying that Danielson has collected multiple points in each of those five games.

Sandin Pellikka Remains In Sick Bay

Defenseman Axel Sandin Pellikka (17th overall, 2023) was missing for a second straight game in the SHL final. The Skelleftea defenseman is battling what he is describing as “a man cold.”

Rogle beat Skelleftea 1-0 on Monday to pull even at 1-1 in the best-of-seven series.

Expectations are that Sandin Pellikka will be good to go for Game 3 of the set on Thursday.

Red Wings Pick Gibson Facing Game 7

Defenseman Andrew Gibson (42nd, 2023) and the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds are down to their last lifeline in the second round of the OHL playoffs against the Saginaw Spirit. The Soo will be on the road for Game 7 of the series on Tuesday at the Dow Event Center.

Gibson has one assist and is carrying a plus-5 rating through 10 postseason games.

Mathurin Into Final Four

There’s no such worries for defenseman Tnias Mathurin (137th, 2022). His North Bay Battalion are through to the OHL Eastern Conference final against the Oshawa Generals.

North Bay is 8-1 through the first two rounds. The Battalion swept the Sudbury Wolves in Round 2. Mathurin had a pair of assists in Game 2 of that series. He’s displaying three assists from nine games and an impressive plus-13 rating. That’s second in the OInterHL.

Keenan Is Streaking

Defenseman Larry Keenan (117th, 2023) has points in both games as the Penticton Vees are up 2-0 on the Vernon Vipers in their BCHL Interior Conference second round series.

Keenan has three assists in six games.

Would sure like to see Danielson and Kasper on the roster… at some point.

Hoping that some point is next year. Ha ha

Remember they don’t have room for anything less than NHL ready players on the roster if the goal is 91 plus points. But yea I’d like to see Danielson and Kasper fit that description along with Edvinsson and Berggren. Maybe their playoff play will elevate them into that mix.

Tom Rady

I think Danielson will start the year in GR as a first year pro. Carter Mazur is also one to look at as he a physical style which the Wings need badly. Kasper started the year slowly but has really come on. If not at the beginning of the year, I could see him getting some games in Det during the year. I do not know what to think of Bergers. All season I had the feeling he wanted out, but then I heard Yzerman talk about him as a likely member of team in his season ending press conference. so I do not know what to think. Of course Edvinsson has already shown his talent that we need badly. I think two other def Johnansson and Tuomisto also merit consideration.

Mike Babcock

Needs another 6 years in Grand Rapids. 🤔

Tom Rady

No Mike but you have to be exceptional at that young age to step right into the NHL. How many can do that right away? Not that many.
