Former Red Wings player Tomas Tatar, now with EV Zug, was suspended for one game and fined $2,500 Swiss Francs ($3,155.75) by the Swiss National League for deliveringĀ a blow to the head of Hannes Bjorninen of the SCL Tigers.

The league’s release said Tatar was guilty of a “reckless and unnecessary action, albeit not overly forceful,” as his opponent was lying on the ice in a defenseless position. Tatar is sitting out today against HC Fribourg-GottĆ©ron.

Tatar, 34, played last season for the New Jersey Devils. After launching his career with a seven-season stint with the Red Wings starting in 2010-11, Tatar played for the Vegas Golden Knights, Montreal Canadiens, Colorado Avalanche, and Seattle Kraken
