Detroit Red Wings draft pick Ethan Phillips scored a crucial goal to help Boston University to beat Cornell 2-1 and earn a place in college hockey’s Frozen Four.

Phillips (drafted 97th overall in 2019) was elevated to the top line and finished the two-game regional with two goals and two assists.

“I’m really proud of Ethan. Going into the Hockey East playoffs he was the 13th forward at the time,” Boston University coach Jay Pandolfo. “He stuck with it, and he was great this whole weekend. We trust him. I’m just so happy for him. It’s great to see him contribute.”

Minnesota also advanced to the Frozen Four after downing St. Cloud 4-1. Two other berths will be decided today when Michigan plays Penn State and Quinnipiac takes on Ohio State.

Cossa’s Walleye Back on Track

Red Wings 2021 first round pick Sebastian Cossa helped the Toledo Walleye get back on track by making 35 saves in a 5-1 win against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. They play again today.

Toledo’s 18-game winning streak ended Friday when it lost 4-2 to the Reading Royals. Cossa is 24-14-2 with a 2.41 goals-against average and .915 save percentage.
