The Daily: Former Red Wings D Pysyk a Target for Penguins? Glass Seeking to Break Through Glass Ceiling With Predators

Rearguard was out all last season due to injury

Mark Pysyk, Red Wings
Could former Red Wings D Mark Pysyk be a PTO candidate for the Pittsburgh Penguins?

One paper, Mark Pysyk is a former Detroit Red Wings player, even if the veteran NHL defenseman never officially was donning the winged wheel. An Achilles tendon injury during offseason training would scuttle Pysyk’s entire 2022-23 season shortly after he was inking a UFA pact with Detroit.

The Red Wings were opting not to sign Pysysk for this season, but Dan Kingerski of Pittsburgh Hockey Now wouldn’t be surprised if the Pittsburgh Penguins were to consider inviting Pysyk to camp on a PTO.

The 31-year-old right-shot defender has played 521 NHL games with the Buffalo Sabres, Florida Panthers and Dallas Stars.

  • Gustav Lindstrom simply ran out of runway with the Red Wings
  • Former Detroit defenseman Danny DeKeyser is a Hall of Famer

Showing his one pride, Lalonde was wearing an Aidan Hutchinson jersey on the sidelines in Allen Park.
