The Daily: Berggren, Czarnik Being Recalled?; Landeskog Skating

Jonatan Berggren, Red Wings

Detroit Hockey Now’s Bob Duff noted forwards Jonatan Berggren and Austin Czarnik were both healthy scratches for the Grand Rapids Griffins Sunday game. Duff wonders if that meant they were on their way to Dallas to join the Red Wings.

The Red Wings are playing the Dallas Stars tonight and the status for Dylan Larkin, David Perron and J.T. Compher are up in the air. Perron will likely be suspended for his crosscheck to the head of Ottawa defenseman Artem Zub. He received a match penalty for intent to injury. He has been offered an in-person hearing. That’s usually an indication of a multiple-game suspension. Hockey insider Kevin Weekes reported Larkin’s medical tests showed no substantial damage after he was knocked unconscious in Saturday’s loss to Ottawa. But that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s ready to play.

Compher has missed the last two games with an undisclosed injury. Also, Klim Kostin missed Saturday’s game with an illness. Traditionally, flu bugs jump from one player to another in an NHL dressing room.

We will probably know more after today’s morning skate in Dallas.

Berggren and Czarnik are the logical choices for a call-up. Veteran Czarnik is a favorite of Detroit coaches because he’s a responsible two-way player and Berggren has 11 points, including five goals, in his past 10 games for the Griffins.

Red Wings In Case You Missed it

  • Bob Duff wrote that what happened Dylan Larkin is an indictment of what’s wrong with the NHL rules.
  • Filip Zadina has not been able to take advantage of his opportunity in San Jose.

Red Wings Next Game

Coach Derek Lalonde’s Red Wings play the Dallas Stars tonight in Dallas. The Stars are 4-4-2 in their last 10 and have lost three of their last four. Dallas has surrendered 19 goals in its last four. The Vegas Golden Knights trounced them 6-1 in their last game. The Red Wings have given up 18 goals in their last four games.
