Offense is king these days in the NHL. Tampa Bay’s Nikita Kucherov is only six points short of reaching the 100-point plateau. Auston Matthews is on pace for 75 goals. The Minnesota Wild and Vancouver Canucks played a game with 17 goals Monday.

But even in the midst of this celebration of offensive might, it’s still remarkable that Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon has a 26-game home points streak.  Evan Rawal of Colorado Hockey Now has the MacKinnon story:

MacKinnon just passed legendary Bobby Orr for the second longest home points streak. Wayne Gretzky has the NHL mark of points in 40 consecutive home games.

“It’s an incredible feat, but when you watch him day in and day out, sometimes we can get spoiled. So, I’m not surprised,” Avalanche defenseman Jack Johnson said. “The way he prepares every day and the way he takes care of himself, on top of his natural abilities, I’m not surprised. If there’s anyone that could do it, it’s him.”

MacKinnon and his Avalanche will be playing in Little Caesars Arena Thursday.
