New Jersey Devils fans are probably expecting, or at least hoping, the team renews negotiations with the Calgary Flames for the possible acquisition of goalie Jacob Markstrom.

But based on Faceoff.com writer Frank Seravalli reporting it may be difficult to resurrect those trade talks. Seravalli said a deal was previously reached between Flames GM Craig Conroy and Devils GM Tom Fitzgerald, but it was nixed by Calgary ownership.

Calgary Hockey Now provides more detail about the Seravalli’s reporting and the story.

The Devils have a skilled roster, but are eight points out of a playoff spot. They fired coach Lindy Ruff Monday. What they need most is a dependable goalie. The Flames want to retool their roster.
