The Daily: Zadina Almost Helped Red Wings; Bedard Ties 70-Year-old Record

Filip zadina, sharks

Former Red Wings player Filip Zadina’s second two-goal game of the season for the San Jose Sharks assures him of  the best offensive season of his career. He boasts 12 goals, two goals more than he had in his best Detroit season.

The two-goal effort almost helped the Red Wings. Almost. It gave the Sharks a chance to take down the Philadelphia Flyers. However, Owen Tippett scored a third period goal to give Philadelphia a 3-2 triumph. The Flyers’ fate is important to the Red Wings because they could end up competing with the Red Wings for a wild card spot.  That would happen if the New York Islanders pass them for third place in the Metropolitan Division.

The Islanders are now four points behind the Flyers with two games in hand.

Zadina now has seven goals in the 13 games since the break. Coincidentally, former Detroit forward Klim Kostin assisted on one of Zadina’s goals.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

  • The hole the Red Wings are digging keeps getting deeper. Detroit’s losing streak is now at six.
  • The Red Wings owe goalie David Rittich a debt of gratitude for his strong play in beating the New York Islanders Sunday. Every game matters in the Eastern Conference wild card race.
  • A Detroit prospect scored a must-see goal in an Ontario Hockey League game.

Red Wings Next Game

Quick turnaround for the struggling Red Wings and their six-game losing streak. They play a home game Thursday against the Arizona Coyotes. Detroit lost to the Coyotes 4-0 five days ago in Arizona. The Detroit squad is in the midst of five games against teams that are not currently in a playoff spot. Tuesday, they lost to the Buffalo Sabres, the first team on that list.
