Duffer’s Dabbles: Red Wings Verbeek Could Be Next GM Of Ducks
The Detroit Red Wings lost a hockey game on Saturday. They may also soon be losing an assistant general manager.
Hockey Night In Canada’s Elliotte Friedman, who’s as plugged in anyone in the NHL, believes that Detroit assistant GM Pat VerbeekĀ is a front runner for the job as GM of the Anaheim Ducks.
“I think he’s very much in the running for Anaheim,” Friedman said Saturday during Hockey Night In Canada’s intermission feature 32 Thoughts.
Expectations are that the Ducks are making their decision on the replacement for Bob Murray this week. Anaheim is playing the Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena on Monday.
If Verbeek does indeed get the job, the close confidant of Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman would be the second assistant GM to leave the club in a matter of months. In August of 2021, Ryan Martin departed Detroit to accept a role as assistant GM with the New York Rangers.
Martin’s departure led to added responsibilities for Verbeek, including becoming GM of Detroit’s AHL farm club, the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Down On The Farm
The Grand Rapids Griffins are winless in five games following their 5-0 shutout loss to the Milwaukee Admirals on Saturday. Kaden Fulcher faced 21 shots in what was his AHL season debut for GR.
