The Daily: Lars Eller Needs to Stay in Washington; Räty Scores Again

Published

on

The Detroit Red Wings aren’t the only ones with a surplus of players on the roster or top prospects in the World Junior Championships. The Washington Capitals are in a similar predicament while the New York Islanders are seeing Aatu Räty rise some more on the world stage.

Washington Hockey Now’s Sammi Silber writes that with a surplus, one name the Capitals should not consider moving is Lars Eller. Sitting on a one year contract worth an AAV of $3.5M, he’s due for a bounce back. Silber writes it may be wise to hold on for a bit to see if that indeed does happen.

Meanwhile in the World Junior Championships, Aatu Räty notched a late goal for Finland in its 4-3 shootout victory. With the multitude of Red Wings prospects in tournament, many Detroit fans recall that Räty was still available for the pick in the 2021 NHL draft. The Red Wings are flush with promising prospects, but Räty is one that still intrigues many in the fanbase.
