Red Wings legend Igor Larionov says eat your veggies and you can be a hockey star.

Igor Larionov’s Torpedo won their first game of the KHL regular season on Tuesday. Afterward, as he met with the press to discuss the reasons behind their victory, the former Detroit Red Wings star came armed with a prop.

It was a Tupperware container filled with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and onions.

Larionov’s message was that if you want to grow up to be a big and strong hockey player, you need to eat your vegetables.

“In one of the messages they sent me a question,” Larionov told KHL.ru. “What do you feed the players that they run so fast?’ So today I brought this to show what the difference is.

“These are the details of the game that are very important. Not only training, not only ice time, not only the gym, but also food. The ‘green’ vector turns into the movement that we see.

“We are changing the culture of the game, the culture of recreation, routine and attitude to the outside world.”
