The Daily: Red Wings GM Yzerman Wishes Zadina Luck With Sharks; Islanders Miss Out on DeBrincat
Zadina signs for one year and $1.1 million with San Jose
It didn’t take long for Filip Zadina to find a new home after his contract with the Detroit Red Wings was terminated by mutual agreement. Zadina is signing with the San Jose Sharks and Detroit GM Steve Yzerman couldn’t be happier for his former player.
“This is the only way to get a fresh start,” Yzerman said not long before the Sharks announced the deal. “I really respect him for making this decision. He’s not a dumb person. He knows what he’s giving up. But his career is more important than the dollars.

“I wish him well. Last week you asked me is there any animosity? The player wants to play. I want him to play. There’s no guarantees in that. My experience with him was always good. He’s a nice, young man. He’s worked hard. It hasn’t worked out. We wish him well somewhere else.”
Red Wings In Case You Missed It
- Both the Red Wings and Ottawa Senators did the best they could out of the Alex DeBrincat trade
- Alex DeBrincat was born to play for the Red Wings
- The recent signing of John Lethemon was another step in Detroit fortifying the club’s goaltending depth
