Do Red Wings Fans Have Priorities in Order?

Since last week’s announcement that Priority Waste Services would be the first-ever jersey sponsor in franchise history, some Detroit Red Wings fans have made it their priority to complain about the choice.

At the same time, there are other members of the team’s fanbase who are certain that these complainers need to get their priorities in order.

Red Wings executive vice president and chief operating officer Ryan Gustafson insists that in Priority, the club has found “someone who understands the brand, who understands the history of Hockeytown and everything the Red Wings represent.”

However, from the viewpoint of an element of the club’s faithful, all they’ve done is find the corporate version of Forky from Toy Story.

It’s just trash.

And they’ve been taking to social media to vent their frustration and disappointment regarding the choice.

“I’m sorry, but the ‘Priority’ logo that’s been added on to the Red Wings sweaters has just ruined one of the most beautiful and classic jerseys in the history of professional sports,” Natalie Sparback posted on X, the site formerly known as Twitter.

She’s not alone in this assessment.

“The Red Wings made garbage a priority, adding a ‘trashy’ logo to their iconic Original 6 sweater,” Bill Roose posted. “P.U.”

Red Wings Conspiracy Theorists Abound

There’s even an element of the fanbase that is utterly convinced the Priority logo has put a hoodoo on the club. Detroit was the winner of six games in a row prior to the addition of the Prioity logo to the Wings jersey.

Since then, they are 0-2. They lost 5-3 to the New York Islanders and 4-0 to the Florida Panthers.

And Monday, Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde was revealing that captain Dylan Larkin would be missing for at least two weeks due to a lower body injury.

This, the conspiracy theory types are suggesting, is all the doing of the Priority logo.

“The Detroit Red Wings have not lead in a game yet since the Priority sponsorship,” @redwings_ryan pointed out.

Chip Bannan is taking things a step further.

“Anyone else feel like the Priority sponsor patches on the Red Wings jerseys are a curse?” Bannan was asking.

There’s even a change.org petition in circulation demanding that the club remove the Priority logo. So far, it has 80 signatures.

It’s all too much ado about nothing to some of the more level-headed followers of the club.

“Could not possibly care less,” noted Bob Smith of the Priority Logo. “Let’s finish the season strong and focus on the product on the ice.”
