The Boston Bruins scored a managerial victory Wednesday when they landed Harvard center John Farinacci. He was considered the top college free agent.

Farinacci, a Arizona Coyotes’ third-round pick, became a free agent Tuesday when the Coyotes’ negotiation rights expired.  The Massachusetts native posted 20 points in 19 games. The Bruins lost two centers (Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci) to retirement this season. The Bruins set an NHL record for points last season.

Red Wings’ draft pick Robert Mastrosimone also became a free agent Tuesday. He played his college hockey at Boston University and Arizona State. As of Thursday morning, he was still unsigned. Reports say some teams are interested in Mastrosimone. He put up 42 points in 38 games last season for Arizona State.

Twenty-four college players, previously drafted by NHL teams, became free agents this week.
