The Daily: Scheifele NHL Trade Rumors; Have Sharks Hit Prospect Mother Lode?

William Eklund could go as early as No. 2 to Seattle in the upcoming NHL draft
The San Jose Sharks boast a strong prospect collection, including William Eklund

Mark Scheifele has been connected to a possible trade to the Boston Bruins, but it’s difficult to know whether there are true discussions or is this a case of connecting the dots.

A Scheifele deal to Boston would be logical because they lost their top two centers Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci to retirement. Scheifele would fill a need. He will be an unrestricted free agent next summer and the question will be whether he is willing to sign a deal with a team that acquires him. Or, is Scheifele committed to test the free agent market.

That factor is critical to what the Jets can ask for Scheifele. And it’s probably crucial to the Bruins’ interest in Scheifele who scored 42 goals last season. The Bruins need a long-term fix. Giving up assets for a short-term fix  may not be for them.

Just because a deal makes sense doesn’t mean it will be easy to make. There have been reports of the Bruins and the Jets talking earlier this summer, and nothing came of it.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

  • Red Wings great Nicklas Lidstrom, now a team vice president, predicts the Red Wings will qualify for the playoffs in 2023-24.
  • Former Detroit defenseman Filip Hronek has opened up about the shock he felt when the Red Wing traded him to the Vancouver Canucks.
