The Daily: Is Backstrom Decision a Sign For Red Wings to Steer Clear of Kane? Bertuzzi Fond of Marchand
Kane underwent hip resurfacing surgery in June
On the surface, the decision of Washington Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom to step away from the NHL after attempting a return from hip resurfacing surgery might not seem of great concern to Detroit Red Wings fans. However, it could be taken as a note of caution if the Red Wings are seriously considering the pursuit of Patrick Kane.

Kane is currently recuperating from a hip resurfacing surgery similar to the procedure Backstrom underwent in 2022. Detroit is among the teams being linked as a possible landing spot for UFA Kane. Carl Hagelin is the only other NHLer to return to action from hip resurfacing surgery. Jesse Puljujarvi is also looking to return to the ice following this type of procedure.
