The Daily: Concern Over Red Wings Goalies?; Jack Hughes Update

Ville Husso, Red Wings

Coach Derek Lalonde’s discussion of an important Red Wings win against the Boston Bruins included concern over Detroit’s goaltending.

Lalonde said he needed to re-watch the game before assessing Ville Husso’s night in a 5-4 win. But he made some general comments about Detroit goaltending over the past couple of games.

“We can’t give up freebies,” Lalonde said. “We battled, he made some saves in the end. Found a way to win the game but have to watch it back. That’s not a recipe for success going forward.”

James Reimer gave up only one goal in the Red Wings; 2-0 loss to the Florida Panthers Thursday, but it was a goal he should have gloved. The puck squirted out of his glove, hit the crossbar and then fell into the net.

Red Wings’ Next Game

Coach Derek Lalonde’s Red Wings (7-4-1) will travel to New York to face the Rangers (8-2-1) on Tuesday at 7:30. The Rangers recently put premium defenseman Adam Fox on LTIR.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

  • Red Wings enjoyed a strong third period to put an end to the Boston Bruins’ point-scoring streak.
  • Captain Dylan Larkin delivered the critical goal to start a Detroit offensive fireworks display.
  • Former Detroit player Tyler Bertuzzi is feeling the heat in Toronto. He hasn’t found his game or his place in a new city.
