The Grand Rapids Griffins won their seventh game in a row Friday night while providing Detroit Red Wings fans with special previews of coming attractions.

Marco Kasper (drafted eighth overall by Detroit in 2022) scored a between-the-legs goal in the third period of Grand Rapids’ 4-3 10-round shootout win against the Manitoba Moose. Jonatan Berggren and Carter Mazur assisted on that tally. Might we say that line in Detroit at some future point? Berggren has put up 17 points (including six goals) in the past 13 games.

Kasper, who played one game for Detroit last season, has four goals and seven points in his past seven games. He has 21 points in 41 games this season for the Griffins who are second in the Central Division.

This is the first time the Griffins have won seven in a row since 2016. Tim Gettinger scored the winning shootout goal in the 10th round. Berggren also scored in the shootout. Here is the goal:

Other Detroit prospects contributed in this important win: defenseman William Wallinder (drafted 32nd overall in 2020) and forward Elmer Soderblom recorded assists. Wallinder, in his first season playing in North America, has eight points. His plus-minus is +2.

Former NHL goalie Michael Hutchinson was in the net for Grand Rapids. Presumably, Sebastian Cossa (drafted 15th overall in 2021) will play tonight in the rematch against the Manitoba Moose.

The Red Wings put an emphasis on making sure the Griffins were competitive this season. The Griffins have missed the playoffs for the past two seasons.
