Red Wings prospect Ivan Ivan
Forward Ivan Ivan was playing for the Red Wings at last year's NHL rookie tournament.

A player so nice they named him twice, a year ago that name recognition alone was gaining center Ivan Ivan some attention as he was participating with the Detroit Red Wings in their NHL rookie tournament in Traverse City, Michigan. This fall, Ivan is in camp with Detroit’s arch rivals the Colorado Avalanche and is turning heads for more than having doubled down on his name.

“Great skillset,” Avalanche coach Jared Bednar told Evan Rawal of Colorado Hockey Now. “Crafty, really good hands and vision. Offensive guy who can skate. I see him as a prospect, I do.”

The Czech player is with the Colorado organization on an AHL contract with the Colorado Eagles.

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

  • There’s more speculation linking the Red Wings to UFA forward Patrick Kane
  • Detroit defensive prospect Axel Sandin Pellikka has scored in three straight games for Skelleftea of the SHL
  • Journeyman netminder Alex Lyon is another Lyon looking for a big year in Detroit
  • The Red Wings made Joe Veleno a 2018 first-round pick, yet the team still doesn’t have a true handle on expectations for the center
