It’s been an interesting week so far to follow the fortunes of former defensemen with the Detroit Red Wings. For starters, in Washington, Capitals reaguard Nick Jensen was back at camp after missing three days for what the team was terming personal reasons.

Jensen is projecting to be a top-four defenseman with the Capitals. He’s penciled in on teh right side of the second pairing.

Meanwhile, in Pittsburgh, former Red Wings blueliner Xavier Ouellet was being handed a new NHL life line by the Pittsburgh Penguins. Ouellet was recently assigned to AHL Wilkes Barre by the Penguins. However, he’s since been earning a recall to the NHL club.

A number of defensemen with ties to the Red Wings were finding themselves going on NHL waivers. Boston was putting both Dan Renouf and Alex Regula through the waiver wire. Arizona was placing Steven Kampfer on the waiver wire.

Waiving another ex-Detroit player, forward Kyle Criscuolo, were the New Jersey Devils.
